Mintel has a current opening for an Accounting Associate responsible for the preparation and filing of sales and use tax returns, payment of and accounting for all related tax liabilities and payments, maintenance of related tax records and files and assisting with the handling of audits.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Assemble daily and monthly account reconciliations while assessing the accuracy of relevant payments and accruals. Prepare adjusting journal entries as needed
  • Continuously research and document tax legislative/code changes to ensure proper implementation into current systems and processes
  • Calculate, prepare and file sales and use tax returns in compliance with all applicable jurisdictions tax requirements and submit appropriate payments
  • Provide substantial evidence in the assistance of audits over sales/use tax returns and defend filing positions taken. Address notices from taxing jurisdictions and resolve in a timely manner
  • Aide internal sales department, revenue team, and external customers with outstanding tax discrepancies
  • Ensure all data is accurately loaded into the applicable sales/use tax system by auditing general ledger sales and verifying proper possession and application of sales tax exemption documentation
  • Communicate inefficiencies, areas of improvement, and concerns of risk exposure to management in an effective and timely manner and assist in the completion of ad hoc projects
  • Generate and process EFT payments and check requests, and monitor those payments to ensure correct application to the respective entities

What We Are Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, or commensurate experience
  • Minimum 1 year of sales and use tax experience
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and technical tax concepts
  • Familiarity with accounting and tax software (Microsoft Dynamics GP, Sales Tax Office a plus)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proven time and project management skills with short and long term planning abilities
  • Demonstrated professionalism, business judgement, and desire for autonomy
  • Analytical skills coupled with problem solving and constant drive to find improved solutions
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to interact independently with customers, third party vendors, and across all levels of the organization
  • CPA-eligible a plus
