Mintel seeks a Data Alchemist whose primary responsibility is to design, implement and test new proprietary metrics in the media and media measurement arena.


  • Analyze and model structured and unstructured data using advanced statistical methods
  • Responsible for data access and maintenance, including: development of data files, conducting quality reviews, data editing, documentation, weighting and imputation
  • Assist product development and software engineers to implement algorithms
  • Identify and implement methods and best practices to improve the reliability and validity of existing proprietary metrics
  • Writing technical documentation for internal and external communications
  • Providing technical guidance and training of research, operations, commercial and product development teams
  • Meeting with clients to understand the array of client applications
  • Conduct desk research and use proprietary information assets to develop a thorough understanding of the verticals we support


Required Experience:

  • Knowledge of media measurement techniques and applications required
  • At least 3 years coding experience in Python or R in a research environment (post college)
  • Self-directed with high motivation and demonstrated capacity to innovate and explore new techniques
  • Strong foundation in writing SQL-based queries (MySQL/PostgreSQL), navigating relational databases, and building ETL jobs for data analysis
  • Ability to explain complex research concepts to individuals without a technical background
  • Working knowledge of advanced analytics and machine learning techniques, e.g.: clustering methods, multidimensional scaling, logistic and linear regression and neural networks
  • Experience using normalized data from disparate sources
  • Collaborative team player with experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • BA/BS in Applied Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, related field or equivalent technical experience
