English to Mandarin In-house Translator

Mintel are looking for a translator to join their in-house Research team. The ideal candidate should be expert with professional business written Mandarin and be able to work under pressure.

As an international leader in providing consumer market research, Mintel produces over 90 reports on the Chinese market each year, published both in Mandarin and in English. The role is based in London to assist the Research department in translating documents and assuring that the quality of the reports produced is to a high standard.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Translate Mintel reports from English to Mandarin, ensuring that translations retain the content, meaning, feeling of the original material, and to a high-quality business report standard
  • Provide accurate translations for webinars and special projects
  • Make sure the Mandarin language in consumer surveys is correct and to a good standard
  • Edit, standardize, proofread, revise and finalise translated reports including visual charts
  • Communicate efficiently with teams both in China and UK
  • Collaborate with other translators to maintain and update the glossary of terms and translation memory
  • Work as part of the team to ensure all departmental deadlines are met

Mandatory requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor degree in translation
  • A good command of CAT tools, in particular Trados
  • Native speaker of Mandarin and near native proficiency in English
  • High focus on attention to detail

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Ability to translate written documents with perfect accuracy and maximal fluency, free of errors, literal translations and cumbersome expressions that are directly transferred, so the Mandarin reports are readily comprehensible to all readers
  • Ability to produce high-quality, nice presented visual charts that can be easily read
  • Ability to analyse the macrostructure of the report and its overall coherence; reading critically and ask questions
  • Well-grounded understanding of or interests in consumer markets, especially in Food and Drink; Food Service; Beauty and personal care; Baby products or Household care
  • Information gathering and research skills
  • Ability to liaise with analysts and senior management in both English and Mandarin
  • Be able to learn and constantly adapt to new publishing formats and styles
  • Demonstrate experience of working in a fast pace office environment as part of a professional team
  • Strong knowledge of Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
