Mintel is in search of an experienced Category Director with expertise in the food and drink category and proven managerial skills. The qualified individual will contribute to our internationally recognized publications by leading his/her team to create relevant, thoughtful, comprehensive category Reports. Using his/her extensive industry knowledge and critical thinking, this person will develop and enhance the quality of all work produced by a team of food and drink Analysts.

Responsibilities:

Insight generation and analysis:

  • Oversee a team of four (4) Analysts, ensuring that reports are focused and are produced in a timely manner
  • Ensure team creates insightful, relevant analysis of food and drink categories that include consumer, market, retailer and/or manufacturer research and perspective
  • Work with food and drink team, internal statisticians, consumer research team and external data providers to develop market data and insightful consumer research
  • Turn consumer research findings, market data and industry knowledge into actionable insights, providing critical thinking, insight and forward looking statements that impact our readers’ business/careers
  • Employ a wide range of research tools, including primary and secondary sources alongside quantitative and qualitative consumer research
  • Consult with Analysts throughout the Reports process to ensure that thinking and data are accurate and relevant to our client-base

 

Relationship building:

  • Interact with a wide variety of clients ranging from small marketing agencies to multi-national giants
  • Coach team to provide insight clients around key trends and product activity, in-person, via phone and through webinars
  • Build strong relationships with a wide range of colleagues in other areas of the company including Global Analysts, Research Analytics, Sales, Marketing and operations teams.
  • Act as the lead Mintel spokesperson in the food and drink category and coach team to serve as lead spokesperson for each category they cover
  • Partner with Product Managers to develop and enhance existing products and services

 

Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum 5-8 years’ experience in a research, branding or consulting role
  • Minimum 2 years of management experience
  • Expertise with the food and/or drink category
  • Expertise reading and interpreting consumer research data
  • A talent for seeing the patterns behind data, and understanding what these patterns mean from a business standpoint
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment, in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.
  • Exceptional communication skills, written and oral
  • Demonstrated presentation skills for large audiences and individual clients
  • High level of organization and scheduling abilities
  • Ability to quality review reports in-progress, ensuring that data is accurate and insights are relevant to the marketplace
  • Expertise working in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time
