Description

We are looking for a Market Size Analyst to join our research team, developing estimates of US consumer markets for Mintel Reports. You will work alongside our team of category experts, researching markets, demographics, and creating market sizes. We are looking for a naturally curious, “numbers” person who enjoys digging into large datasets.

Key responsibilities:

Create market size estimates for a variety of US markets

  • Research markets using secondary sources and trade research
  • Collect and organize data from internal and external sources, including IRI point-of-sale data, government data, trade journals, annual reports
  • Create market estimates using partial year data, previous information, and related internal reports
  • Develop definitions and parameters for product categories not previously estimated
  • Aggregate data, identifying leading brands and companies, and create formatted tables for use in Mintel Reports and databases
  • Research and understand US retailing trends and consumer shopping preferences and habits in order to apply this knowledge to consumer market estimations
  • Assess data for accuracy, coverage, and validity
  • Work closely with category experts to explain and clarify market estimates

 

Key Qualifications:

Numeracy: A high degree of numeracy is required

  • A natural affinity for and ability to manipulate numbers
  • Expertise working in Excel

Research/Analytics: The work requires an analytical mind. You must ensure outside data is appropriate and reliable, and where possible, corroborated by additional sources.

  • Experience working with syndicated sales data, such as IRI or Nielsen
  • Experience in understanding and researching secondary data sources, such as industry or government data (Census.gov, BEA.gov)
  • Skilled at developing search query language to maximize likelihood of useful results
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
  • A talent for seeing the patterns behind data and understanding what these patterns mean from a business standpoint

 

General:

  • Must be willing to persist in searching for difficult to obtain data
  • Attention to detail
  • Great organizational skills/ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • A strong team player
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain data to non-technicians
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 1-2 years professional experience
