Description

The Senior Benefits Specialist will be responsible for supporting the HR team in the administration, implementation, and communication of the North American employee health & welfare and retirement programs for approximately 350 lives. This position reports to the SVP of Human Resources.

This position will manage the administration of Mintel’s U.S and Canadian benefit plans and programs in accordance with plan documents, insurance contracts, vendor agreements, and applicable federal, state, provincial, and local regulations.

 

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Oversee the company’s Annual Enrollment process to include coordination with TPA, vendors, and development of written communications (letters, e-mails, presentations) and scheduling of employee information sessions
  • Interpret benefit and retirement plans and policies in order to facilitate administration, respond to questions, and interface with vendors independently to solve complex problems routinely
  • Administer the company’s disability plans which will include reviewing disability status reports and partnering with third party administrators to ensure payments are timely and statuses are updated accordingly
  • Act as the liaison between company benefit council and vendors, while holding the vendors accountable for excellent service performance and service level agreements
  • Act as the main point of contact for the 401k plan and provide expertise advice and direction to the Trustees
  • Ensure benefit policies are updated and in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations
  • Conduct monthly audits and manage benefit plan billing
  • Assist with mandatory federal, state and provincial reports and filings and required communications (e.g. required DOL and ERISA reporting and communications)
  • Counsel new employees regarding benefit programs and conduct new employee orientations and enrollment workshops with the assistance of Mintel’s broker and HR team
  • Collaborate with the HR Team and Finance/Payroll in the administration of benefits data
  • Handle maintenance of plan documentation on benefits TPA site
  • Support statutory and provincial compliance with FMLA, ADA, COBRA, ERISA, and HIPAA programs
  • Provide assistance in annual year-end process for benefits and payroll

 

What We Are Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Finance, Law or related field
  • 6 - 10 years of experience in a corporate benefits role developing and administering health/welfare, transit, disability and 401k benefit
  • Working knowledge of federal and state benefits regulations and legislation (e.g., PPACA, ERISA, IRC, DOL, FMLA, ADAA, COBRA, HIPAA)
  • Hands-on experience in handling technical aspects of benefits administration (e.g., discrimination testing and government reporting obligations)
  • Demonstrated ability to assist in establishing and executing a benefits strategy
  • Strong analytical and quantitative abilities, including cost forecasting
  • Highly adaptable to changing business conditions and priorities
  • Sound judgement in knowing what and when to communicate to management regarding potential issues with benefit plans
  • Ability to manage deadlines while handling multiple tasks
  • Takes pride in work product being accurate & complete within the designated time frame
  • Superb problem-solving competencies
  • Healthy skepticism, inquisitive by nature, and strives to understand the why
  • Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills; ability to interact at all levels within and outside the organization
  • Canadian benefits experience preferred
  • Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) preferred
