The Senior Innovation and Insights Analyst will support our newly launched Purchase Intelligence service through creating and delivering expert insight and exceptional client service to companies in the US food and drink industry. This analyst should have experience in the food and drink business and an ability to combine that knowledge with strong data analysis skills to help our clients remain competitive in the future.  This position is based in Chicago.


The responsibilities of this position include: 

  • Interacting with major food and drink industry companies during their new product development process, from concept screening to sales/shelf space planning to continued brand health: [~75% of your time]
    • Provide insights and guidance using Mintel data and expertise. Topics might include:
      • Stage 0 support, consumer perception, brand equity, brand health, etc.
      • Identifying and predicting industry trends and white space opportunities for new products, brands and manufacturers
      • Analysis of emerging products, ingredients, claims and breakthroughs in the food and drink industry
    • Develop and conduct presentations, delivering them over the phone, via webex and on-site
    • Work with sales to develop compelling pitches to show how Purchase Intelligence is a must-have service
  • Working with internal stakeholders to continue enhancing the Purchase Intelligence product [~20% of your time]
    • Identify opportunities to better meet clients’ needs through product enhancements
    • Create some syndicated insight pieces to promote Purchase Intelligence capabilities, working closely with Mintel’s digital design team.
  • Representing Mintel as an industry expert at tradeshows and with press [5% of your time]
    • Present at tradeshows, conferences and professional events
    • Respond to journalists and other media requests


The required experience and skills are: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working for one or more of the following:
    • a manufacturer or brand in the food and drink industry
    • market research/advertising/marketing strategy and/or consultancy;
    • analytics company in a CPG role
  • Experience with new product development, competitive intelligence, brand development, and consumer research and trends
  • A talent for seeing the patterns behind data and understanding what these patterns might mean for consumers and the companies serving those consumers
  • Strong experience of using consumer research data and how to effectively analyze it
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • A talent for storytelling with data
  • Demonstrated presentation skills for large audiences and individual clients
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Ability to travel within the US up to 30%
